Karen E. Geissert, D.V.M., owner of Acton Animal Hospital since 1998, has practiced veterinary medicine for 22 years, 17 of them in this area. She received a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh, a M.P.H. degree in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Public Health, and completed her medical training at Colorado State University. Dr. Geissert is a member of the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Medical Association. She enjoys sharing her profession with students who are exploring it as a possible career and also participates in school-related animal education projects as her busy schedule allows.
Betty Johnston, V.M D., joined the Acton Animal Hospital staff in May 2005. She has been in practice in this area for over 30 years, doing mixed practice for 15 years, then exclusively small animal practice (dogs, cats, and pocket pets) for the last 16 years. She received her veterinary degree from The University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Massachusetts Veterinary medical Association, The American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association. In her spare time she enjoys cycling, and training and competing in obedience, rally, and agility with her Labrador Retrievers.
Maria-Elena Cloherty, D.V.M., has joined the staff at Acton Animal Hospital in 2008. Dr.Cloherty is a graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University, and has practiced small animal medicine and surgery since graduating in 2001. She recently relocated to our area from Brewster, Massachusetts along with her family and their pets. Dr. Cloherty is available for appointments at Acton Animal Hospital two days a week in addition to some Saturday mornings.
